New Delhi: Popular comedian and Bollywood actor Gurpreet Ghuggi joined Aam Aadmi Party in presence of senior party leaders for the 2017 Punjab assembly polls.

Ghuggi, originally hailing from Gurdaspur,  has been inducted into the Kejriwal-led party in Chandigarh.

He rose to fame after participating in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. The actor has also made appearances in several TV shows. He has acted as a comedian in Bollywood movies and Punjabi movies such as Singh Is Kinng, Namastey London, Race, Asa Nu Maan Watna Da, Yaara Naal Bahaara, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Mera Pind, Jijja Ji, Jag Jeondeyan De Mele, Tera Mera Ki Rishta, Speedy Singhs and Munde UK De.

He is the second Punjabi actor joining the party after popular Punjabi comedian & MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann.

Talking exclusively to ABP News, Ghuggi said that after laughter challenge now it’s the time to challenge the character.
“After laughter challenge, now is the time for character test. I always wished to do something for the land I was born in. I decided to join AAP as I am an Aam Aadmi. I have seen their report card and was impressed with their style of practical functioning. I have received so much of love and affection from the people here and hence I realised this is the right time to do something for them,” the actor said.

Ghuggi also invited Navjot Singh Sidhu, who judged him in the show laughter challenge, to join AAP.

“If Sidhuji takes some sound decisions it will benefit the state of Punjab. We will invite sidhuji in AAP, would want him to lead us as he is our senior,” he added.

AAP senior leader and in-charge of the party’s Punjab affairs Sanjay Singh said Ghuggi’s entry in to AAP will strengthen the party in the state.

“Ghuggiji has gained immense popularity in Punjab. He connects well with the people here. His entry into AAP will strengthen the party in Punjab. He will join the fight for change that’s required in this state,” Singh told ABP News.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has said it would launch ‘Punjab Dialogue’ next month to seek people’s opinion on various issues in the state and incorporate them in their manifesto for the state polls.

The party said it will launch ‘Punjab Dialogue’ on March 15 which will continue till August 15. A blueprint on the kind of government the common man wants in Punjab will be released on August 15, the party said.
